The Megapari app: Android, iPhone, and what to do when the site will not open

Betting apps that handle real money are kept out of the Play Store, which is why the Android build arrives as an APK from the operator instead. Normal for this category, and also the one place people get caught: a file off a forum, or a link somebody forwarded, is not this file.

Scan the code with the camera and the file begins saving to the phone rather than to whatever you are reading this on.

The same trick for iOS: scanning the code opens the page in Safari, where the share menu does the rest.

Eight things go wrong often enough to be worth writing down. The first row is the common one in Kenya, and it is not your phone.

There is no exotic requirement here. If the phone runs the usual apps it runs this one, and the only thing you have to change is a setting rather than a device.

Anything that runs Safari, which is every iPhone and iPad anybody is still carrying. The Mac does the same thing from its own share menu.

Less than Android, because nothing is installed. There is no file to allow and no setting to change. The only thing the iPhone route needs is the right browser.

On Windows and macOS the browser is the app. Chrome and Edge will also pin the site as a web app, which puts it in the taskbar or the dock and drops the address bar. The product underneath is identical, and the wider screen makes the live board easier to read.

1. Open the app and press sign up, top right where it always is;
2. Enter a phone number, or an email address, then a password;
3. Choose Kenyan shilling, choose Kenya, and put the promo code in its field;
4. Read the terms, tick the box, press the button;
5. Confirm through the code that arrives, and the account is live.

From there the cashier is one tap away, and the first deposit is what decides which welcome offer you took.

The app shows the same promotions as the browser, on the same terms. What it adds is the push notification, which is the difference between knowing an offer ran and finding out about it afterwards. Three tables below.

On Android an update is the same APK from the same page, installed over the top of what is there. Nothing is lost doing that: the login and the settings survive. On an iPhone there is nothing to do at all, because the icon points at the site and the site is whatever version is live.

An old build eventually stops talking to the cashier properly, and that is the one place you notice it. New payment routes and new sections arrive with the update rather than on their own.

4. Press the button, and check it in your history.

On Android, settings, apps, Megapari, uninstall. On an iPhone, hold the icon until it wobbles and remove it. Neither closes the account, and neither touches the balance.

1. Open the app and press log in, top right;
2. Type whichever of the two you registered under;
3. Type the password and confirm;
4. If two-factor is on, enter the code that arrives;
5. The dashboard loads with the balance and the live board on it.

Staying signed in saves a step. On a phone somebody else picks up, leave that switched off.

Whatever the desktop site does, this does, with the layout redrawn so a thumb can reach it. The live board, the lobby, the cashier, the settings and the support chat are all in here. Push notifications are the single thing a browser cannot give you.

Whatever the app sends travels over an encrypted connection. Getting in needs a password, and a second factor as well once you turn that on. The identity check stands in front of the first payout, which is what stops somebody else emptying the account. Game results come out of generators that get audited by people outside the company. The licence behind all of it is the Anjouan one.

Storage access is what lets the APK install and the app keep a cache, so it is the one Android asks for first. Notifications carry bet results and payout confirmations. The camera is used for one thing only, which is photographing the document during verification. Nothing here is compulsory. Refuse any of them and the betting, the casino and the cashier still work.
